Water quality

“Rīgas Ūdens” regularly monitors drinking water quality in the central water distribution network of Riga city in compliance to the regulations of Minister Cabinet No. 671 from 14.11.2017. “Compulsory safety and quality requirements for drinking water, procedures of monitoring and control”.

Drinking water quality is regularly monitored by “Rīgas ūdens” United water quality control laboratory (UWQCL), which is accredited by the Latvian National Accreditation board (Registration No. LATAK-T-165-18-99).

In accordance with the Health Inspection of the Ministry of Health guidelines, United water quality control laboratory performs planned drinking water quality control by taking samples from the water distribution network of Riga city. “Rīgas ūdens” regularly informs the Health Inspection about the results of water quality control.

Health Inspection also performs drinking water quality control by taking water samples in different parts of the city and informs “Rīgas ūdens” about the results.

Health Inspection also monitors the operation of “Rīgas Ūdens” by controlling drinking water quality starting from a water source and ending at the tap.                                                           

To assure drinking water quality from groundwater source “Baltezers-Zaķumuiža” according to quality normatives for drinking water, “Rīgas ūdens” realized project “Water treatment station building in “Baltezers”” which was cofinanced from Cohesion project “Development of water management in Riga, Round 4”. As a result was implemented system for iron and manganese removal from drinking water, ensuring compliance with manganese and iron content.

Quality of drinking water provided by “Rīgas ūdens” at this moment fully conforms to the regulations of Minister Cabinet No. 671 from 14.11.2017. “Compulsory safety and quality requirements for drinking water, procedures of monitoring and control”.
